The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) was honored for the second consecutive year with the Ethisphere Institute’s recognition as one of the world’s most ethical companies that ensure that ethical business standards and good practices are carried out within their organizations.
The award takes into consideration the honoree’s performance in the areas of sustained codes of ethics, evaluating investments and other key business practices, as well as nominations presented by colleagues within the industry, collaborators and clients.
The Panama Canal Authority’s dynamic administrator, Mr. Alberto Alemán Zubieta stated that it was an honor to receive the award as the PCA has transparency, honesty and commitment to the people of Panama, its clients, the environment and anticorruption among its fundamental principles. The Panama Canal Authority is one of two companies in Latin America to be honored in the transportation and logistics sector.
Mr. Alberto Alemán Zubieta will be leaving the Panama Canal next September 3, 2012 after 16 years of service. The Panama Canal Authority designated Mr. Jorge Luis Quijano, an engineer, as the new administrator, who will be working closely with Mr. Alemán to ensure a smooth transition once he becomes the new administrator on September 4, 2012.
Mr. Quijano has been with the Panama Canal since 1975, and has held increasingly higher positions throughout the years. In 2007 he was appointed Executive Vice President of the Engineering and Administration Department. Mr. Quijano manages a group of 500 professionals who are responsible for carrying out the Expansion Program, and has demonstrated that he has the ability and experience necessary to successfully direct the operations of the Panama Canal.
