Healthy Growth Expected for Medical Tourism in Panama

The Panamanian government foresees dynamic growth in the Panamanian medical tourism industry once the health care reforms in the US are pushed through. US citizens could choose Panama due to long waiting lists in other countries and delay in reimbursements. Panamanian authorities anticipate that 500-700,000 patients could arrive to the country yearly. Current figures put demand at 65,000 to 80,000 per year, a figure certain to increase in tandem with the number of retired US citizens seeking medical services abroad. The government also stated that the quality of Panamanian medical services relative to cost, when compared to other nations, has improved.
