Fourth Phase of Pacific Port Expansion due for Completion this Year

Four new Super Post-Panamax cranes are to be installed at the Port or Balboa on the Pacific Coast of Panama, transforming the terminal into one of the largest in the Latin American region. In total, the port will boast 22 gantry cranes, including ten post-Panamax cranes and eight Panamax cranes. Panama Ports Company (PPC), the operator of the Port of Balboa, expects completion of the current expansion by the end of 2010 or the beginning of 2011. In total, the Balboa port has received investments amounting to 800 million USD, with the current phase costing representing between 200 and 300 million USD.
