PANAMA HELD ITS FIRST LOGISTICS CONFERENCE

The first Panama Logistics Conference 2012 was held during the week of January 15 - 19, sponsored by CBRE Panama and its Managing Director, Ramón Roux. As special guests, there were more than 40 top executives, with specialists in industrial services, logistics, ports and supply chains from CBRE Group, Inc., made up of representatives from 17 states in the US and led by William Waxman, vice president of Port Logistics of CBRE International.
The main purpose of the conference was to bring to the attention of the international team the many benefits that Panama offers in logistics, industrial matters and foreign investment incentives, among others, for them to promote Panama among their CBRE customers in the US since they would have a better understanding of the advances in the port system and international logistics, stated Mr. Roux in his opening speech.
Also participating in the conference was the Minister of Commerce & Industries, Ricardo Quijano, who highlighted logistics, telecommunications and the important trade agreements that Panama has achieved.
The guests were able to visit the Miraflores locks and learn about the Panama Canal’s operations in a presentation by Alberto Alemán Zubieta, the Canal’s dynamic administrator. They also visited the Colon Free Zone, the largest in the region, and the ports operations at Manzanillo International Terminal. Other areas of interest included Panama Pacífico, the new mixed-use development where top international firms have already established their regional headquarters.
